On Wednesday night, Nigerian singer Harrysong posted a cryptic photo on his Instagram page where he asked friends and family not to cry when he dies. The troubling photo got fans and associates alike concerned about the wellbeing of the ‘Alterplate Records’ owner.
“Dont cry wen i die,celebrate,put up a kingmaker concert,empower more youths,..i have Lived..i have Done my bit,carry on in grace… TEKERO❤ I LOVE YOU ALL.#altersoldier, “ he wrote.
All attempts to reach him have proven abortive as both his telephone lines were switched off at the time of filing this report. His official manager too did not pick up after a series of telephone calls while other associates whom we spoke to said they couldn’t confirm or deny what was happening to him.
It’s not the first time a Nigerian celebrity would leave apparent suicide notes on social media. The most notable example would be Tiwa Savage’s now estranged husband TeeBillz, who at the height of their marital troubles threatened to end it all and was only restrained from doing so by friends Banky W and Peter Okoye.
However in 2015, a close associate of Harrysong’s- Skiibi, who was signed along with him to KCee’s Five Star Music at the time- pulled a similar stunt. Skiibi announced his own death on Instagram and got the country talking about him. Few hours later, his management and KCee released a statement to the effect that he merely collapsed and was resuscitated at a hospital afterwards. It became clear that the stunt was a move to garner sympathies from the public.
Harrysong’s penultimate post was hours before and it showed a fan dancing to his new song Tekero. It is unclear if he had other issues not known to the public but only last year he welcomed a set of twins in the US. He attracted some criticism for using stock photos of newborn twins to announce the news. He later explained he was protecting the identity of his babies.
This is a developing story. More to follow.
