During her lifetime, Aretha Franklin was known as ‘The Queen of Soul’ and with good reason: she was boisterous in her music and lifestyle. Who can ever forget those thousand dollar fur coats that she loved to wear?

Little wonder then, that at the public viewing of her body in her hometown of Detroit before a private burial later the week, the Queen was dressed in a ruffled red dress, complete with red Louboutin shoes on her feet- which were crossed as she lay in a gold casket.

Thousands of friends, fans well-wishers gathered on Tuesday pay their respects to the iconic singer who passed away last week.

Over the course of two days, fans from all works of life have the opportunity to see her one final time before she’s interred in her family lot at the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Her five-decade-long career started at age 12 in her father’s church before she went secular a few years later. At her death, she had 44 Grammy nominations and 18 awards.
