Australia, on Wednesday, announced plans to scrap a 10% tax on tampons and sanitary products from 2019, supporting various campaigners who see it as sexist after women have argued it to be an unfair, noting items such as condoms and sunscreen are exempt.

The agreement was reached after a meeting with to government officials and the federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg.

“We’re really delighted that everyone’s come on board to scrap what is an unfair tax,” Minister for Women Kelly O’Dwyer said. “Millions of women right across the nation will be very thankful for it.”

The move was first made in 2015 but rejected because states and territories were reportedly going to lose about $22 million in tax revenue.
