Canadian Singer The Weeknd Drops H&M After Racist H&M Advert Goes Viral

Swedish clothing retail company, H&M, has found itself in the middle of a social media whirlwind after it posted an image of a little black boy wearing a green hoodie which reads: ‘Coolest Monkey In The Jungle’. The inscription on the little black boy’s hoodie has been criticized for being racist.

In an effort to control what hasn’t turned out to be a quite damaging turn of events for the company, H&M issued an official apology. The company wrote:

“This image has now been removed from all H&M channels and we apologise to anyone this may have offended.”

Following a series of celebrity reactions to the retail’s store’s offensive advertisement, ‘Starboy’ singer, The Weeknd, took to Twitter to publicly denounce the company’s advertisement.

The Weeknd, who has a history with the company from modeling for them to selling his merchandise through them, announced that he will no longer be working with them.

While the company did remove all images of the boy wearing the hoodie form their platforms, the hoodie is still available for purchase online.
