Solidifying his intention to finally drop his long-awaited Yung Denzl album, last night (August 14), M.I Abaga hosted entertainment and media practitioners as well as select fans at the rooftop odeum of Road Chef, in Lekki Phase 1, on Lagos Island for the private listening of the album.
The gathering which according to the rapper is intended for the acquisition of feedback from attendees saw the rapper share backstories on the inspiration, creative process and significance of the Yung Denzl album. “The reason why the release of Yung Denzl has taken this long is because, this is my most personal project”, Abaga revealed.
Still, in the attitude of revelation, M.I explained that the album is a three-part project on the study of; Self, Love and Society. The projects opening track titled, ‘Do You Know Who You Are?’, as the title suggests is a sermon of self-awareness. “We are in a time when people often compare themselves to others and with this song, I want people to know themselves and appreciate their uniqueness”, M.I explained. The song which is both soulful and conscious also shines a light on self-hate as M.I stressed on the need for black people to express love to one another and appreciate their blackness.
The album sees M.I at his barest as a number of tracks found him reevaluating himself and reaching for a higher realm of self-love with an understanding that perfection is a journey and not a destination. You will most likely begin a journey that defies public perception after listening to the album, as the bulk of it encourages self-validation.
The Yung Denzl album according to Abaga is already in the cloud and as announced, will most definitely drop next weekend (August 24).
