Toronto Raptors this morning secured their first ever NBA Championship at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. The Raptors claimed their first ever NBA Championship title by defeating favourites and defending Champion GSW by 114-:110 in game 6 after taking a 3:2 advantage into the game.
Raptors Nigerian president Masai has been credited for much of the success of the team. As President of Basketball Operations, Masai Ujiri engineered the blockbuster trade which brought San Antonio Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard, a three-time NBA All-Star, NBA champion and finals MVP, to Toronto last year. The move has paid off remarkably with Leonard leading the team to their first ever NBA Championship title.
Born in England to a Nigerian Father and Kenyan Mother, Masai Ujiri started his NBA career as an unpaid scout for Orlando Magic in 2002. In less than 2 years, Ujiri’s talent was spotted and he was able to land a paid job with Denver Nuggets, as scouts and as director of international scouts after impressing the franchise management.
In 2007, Ujiri was first hired by the Raptors as director of global scouting after which he was promoted to assistant general manager a year later, he moved to Denver Nuggets as vice president in charge of basketball operations. Ujiri was named as the 2013 NBA Executive of the year, after making impressive transfer deals and trades.
