Jay Z’s ‘The Blueprint’ Album Is 17 Years Today

‘The Blueprint’, the sixth studio album by multi-platinum selling rapper and music business mogul Jay Z marks its seventeenth anniversary since its release on this day, September 11, 2001.

The ‘Universally Acclaimed’ album which is the first instalment of the ‘Blueprint Trilogy’ series sold over 427,000 copies in its opening week and has gone on to be certified double platinum.

The album’s lead single, Izzo (H.O.V.A.) reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S and was Jay-Z’s first top 10 single as a lead artist. The album also officially introduced G.O.O.D Music boss Kanye West into the mainstream as he produced the hit record.

Other notable records on the album include Song Cry, Girls Girls Girls, and Renegade featuring Eminem who was the only guest artiste on the album.

The album has been classified as one of the best hip-hop projects ever and Rolling Stone magazine’s revised ranking of 2012 puts ‘The Blueprint’ at Number 252 in the list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
