Following the revelations from the CNN correspondent, Nima Elbagir’s investigative documentary on Slavery In Libya which showed how African migrants with the intention of landing into Europe by ultimately crossing the Mediterranean sea are smuggled into Libya where many of them are sold into slavery, wallowing in detention camps and the public outcry that followed which spurred the Nigerian government to facilitate the deportation of its citizens back to Nigeria. Edo state had the highest number of deportees brought back to Nigeria.
Going to Europe by land/sea is a popular trend in Benin City, the Edo State capital where youths are inspired by the success stories of their friends, relatives, and neighbours who arrived safely in Europe by taking the Niger-Libya route. Most of them don’t get to know the harsh conditions and uncertainty that awaits them till they embark on the journey.
Duno’s Letter To Europe enlightens the public with real-life stories from returnee who gave an account of their experiences through the journey.
The video was produced by Heartbeat360 Media and the accompanying soundtrack “Letter From Libya” was produced by award-winning producer Michael Excel.
