Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo are football’s greatest rivalry of all time. We are indeed grateful to witness these two players in our lifetime as they compete to outdo themselves anytime the opportunity presents itself, either at club level football where they both play in the La Liga in Spain for FC Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
Messi and Ronaldo have 10 FIFA Ballon d’Or titles between themselves with each of them winning five. As the World Cup in Russia gets into full swing, it is believed that the overall performance of both players who are captains of their sides in this tournament would seal the decision as to who will be crowned the FIFA player of the year in the next ceremony.
From the look of things, Ronaldo seems to be having the edge following his opening group game hattrick to help Portugal secure a draw with Spain. Messi, however, failed to convert a penalty as Argentina were held to a 1 – 1 draw by world cup debutants Iceland.
The question that will be answered at the end of the tournament will be, which of these two great players will dominate the statistics at the end of the 2018 world cup?
