Microsoft Co-Founder, Paul Allen, Dies Of Cancer At Age 65

Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen, 65, has died following complications related to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, two weeks after revealing he was being treated for the disease. Allen co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975 at age 22.

Two weeks ago, Allen had tweeted that the same disease he battled in 2009 has returned. He said: “Some personal news: Recently, I learned the non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma I battled in 2009 has returned.

I’ve begun treatment & my doctors are optimistic that I will see a good result. Appreciate the support I’ve received & count on it as I fight this challenge,”

Allen was said to be a philanthropist and also the owner of the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers, the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and had a stake in Seattle’s Sounders soccer team.

“I am heartbroken by the passing of one of my oldest and dearest friends, Paul Allen,” Microsoft founder Bill Gates said in a statement Monday. “Paul was a true partner and dear friend. Personal computing would not have existed without him.”

His sister, Jody Allen also said in a statement on behalf of the family: “My brother was a remarkable individual on every level. He was a much-loved brother and uncle, and an exceptional friend.”

Allen was ranked among the world’s wealthiest individuals. As of Monday afternoon, he was ranked 44th on Forbes’ 2018 list of billionaires with an estimated net worth of more than $20 billion.
