2017 was an awesome year in the Nigerian entertainment industry but it was also a sad one, as we had to say goodbye to many of our favourite faces. Here are seven times our hearts were broken when we had to say goodbye to some of the faces that have entertained us.
1. Moji Olaiya
Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya, passed on May 18, 2017 in Canada. The sudden death was caused by a cardiac attack. The 42 year old had just given birth months before she died. Her body was brought back home to Nigeria and she was buried on June 7, 2017.
2. Obi Madubogwu
Remembered especially for his contributions to the Nollywood industry, Obi Madubogwu gave up the ghost after loosing a long battle with a diabetes related ailment. The actor died at the at the Federal Medical Center in Yaba.
3. Hector Joberteh
Arguably one of the saddest deaths this year, Hector’s life was abruptly brought to an end when he was shot in cold blood. The Gulder Ultimate Search 2006 winner was killed in his home by gunmen days after coming back to Nigeria.
4. Okwy Chukwujekwu
Popularly known as Main Bossman, Okwy died after he was found lifeless in a car. Although the cause of his death is still largely unknown, the 27 year old’s burial ceremonies was a four day long affair.
5. Olumide Bakare
The Nollywood veteran had been battling with heart disease for a while before he died on April 22 2017. He is remembered for his roles in Ise Onise, Aye Olorogun, Iboji, Oduduwa and Adesoro.
6. Toyin Majekodunmi
The 61 year old Nollywood actress just a day into 2017. Her actor husband, Solomon Majekodunmi, left Nigeria weeks before she passed on. The actress, who was survived by her husband and children, died after struggling with a protracted illness.
7. Eric Arubayi
Fans and colleagues were shocked when they found out about the death of 2007 West African Idols finalist, Eric Arubayi, passed on at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital on Saturday February 11, 2017.
