Following a successful outing of its just-concluded Nigerian Entertainment Conference, international media and public relations organisation, BHM Group has announced the launch of NETShop, the latest offering from the stable of its premium news and entertainment website Nigerian Entertainment Today (theNETng).
Established in 2009, theNETng has 5 million active users, has received over 6 billion views, and published over 36,000 stories in 7 years.
Videos from the NETfunnies, NETInterviews, and NETLive have been viewed over 145 million times in the past year alone.
Reaching an average of 3 million users on social media weekly via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, where it boasts monthly video views totalling at least 2 million, NET has invested in other fast-growing platforms including Newsroom.ng, Orin.ng, Star.ng, NET TV and the newly-launched NETShop.
NETshop was unveiled at the NECLive4 event, before a distinguished crowd of media, sports, fashion, IT, creative and entertainment professionals as well as PR practitioners who filled the 2,500-capacity Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island on Wednesday, April 20, 2016.
‘NETShop was informed by our rising popularity among young people aged below 35. With millions of active users on NET, we discovered in 2015 that if people already spend some huge chunk of their day, everyday reading about the stars they love on NET, where else would be the best place to buy merchandise or tickets to see a concert featuring this star?’, said Ayeni Adekunle, the founder and publisher.
He continued, ‘We are blurring the lines between journalism and e-commerce, hoping to make it easier for artists and brands selling entertainment products to meet those looking to buy those products,’

‘Orin is now available to all labels, musicians, DJs, artistes and promoters to upload and distribute their music worldwide. Fans can also listen, like and share their favourite songs and videos. The aim is to begin building ‘the largest community of Nigerian music fans in the world.’ Ayeni adds.
The most recent acknowledgment of how BHM Group is shaping and driving media consumption in the African sub-continent came just weeks ago, from the world’s largest social networking site Facebook, which has now partnered with NET to debut updates to its social plugins.
Facebook’s announcement of NET as one of 3 Nigerian platforms selected for integration of the Quote Sharer, Share Composer and Facebook Instant Articles features places NET at par with global brands such as BuzzFeed, The Atlantic, National Geographic, NBC, and The New York Times, which continue to enjoy a similar working relationship.
