Actor and former Cosby show star Geoffrey Owens has spoken up after he was job-shamed for going from an actor to bagging groceries at a store.
Geoffrey who spoke in an interview with Good Morning America said he took up the job at Trader Joe to make ends meet and had been doing that quietly for a year before his story went viral. Prior to his job at the grocery store, he had been acting, directing and teaching those two crafts for more than 30 years, and “it got to a point where it just didn’t add up enough,” Owens said.
The actor wore his Trader Joe’s name tag on his chest during the interview to show that he is proud of the job he does. and said he hopes that people will understand that no job is superior to the other and there’s dignity in labour, irrespective of how much it pays.
While Owens said the incident has sparked interest in him for future acting gigs, he maintained that he would only be interested in pursuing opportunities he earned on merit alone. American actor and director Tyler Perry had offered Owens a role in an upcoming movie, saying he was impressed with the actor’s push to keep hustling.
