Game of thrones is finally over; an incredible show that is arguably one of the most popular series in Television history. The show that captured our hearts for almost a decade now has come to an end. As expected, fans all over the world, not exempting those from Nigeria are experiencing mixed feelings at the moment.
The show closed curtains with a final episode titled “The Iron Throne” and this article will be giving a recap on what went down in the episode. So FAIR WARNING! THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS!
In the opening scenes, we see Tyrion Lannister walking around the wreck that Daenerys caused via Drogo, her last child-dragon. Soon after, he was wallowing in sorrow when he saw the corpse of his favourite sibling, Jaime Lannister and Cersei under a pile of bricks. He thought he saved them, but instead, he helped them die together.
Daenerys arrests Tyrion because he released Jamie when he was arrested by her soldiers (The unsullied), Jon pays a visit to the last living Lannister in the makeshift prison where they’re keeping him, not even offering a slight chuckle when Tyrion asks, “Brought any wine?”
Tyrion tries to convince Jon about why he needs to take up his responsibility as the rightful heir of Westoros, since Daenerys has turned out to be the mad queen and she is not going to stop killing people anytime soon. We see Jon arguing throughout the scene and the way he tried to justify her actions while Tyrion kept on pointing out her wrongs.
In an unexpected plot, we see Jon Snow stabbing Daenerys Targaryen with a knife after he proclaimed her as his queen and even shared a kiss with her, I guess he had to face the reality that she is no longer who he initially thought she was, this realization happened when she announced her intention to create a better world for people and the way they have no say in it (by killing thousands of innocents in various cities). As a result of her murder, Jon gets Drogon mad with rage which leads to him burning down the Iron throne.
After a time-jump, a council of all the powerful leaders convenes to talk about Tyrion, a now-imprisoned Jon, and what happens next. Jon is the Unsullied’s prisoner, and it’s a topic of concern among Arya and Sansa Stark, they don’t want to see their brother killed. Especially since he just officially picked their side over Dany’s. Other members of this leaders like Yara, Robert Arryn, Edmure Tully however, are fine with Jon being killed.
When Greyworm grew impatient about their banter and wanted an immediate decision on what to be done to Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow. Tyrion comes up with the idea of parliamentary democracy, and poor Samwell Tarly dreams up direct democracy and gets shot down for it. Edmure Tully also aims for the vacant position, and Sansa shuts him up before he could finish his manifesto.
Tyrion nominates “Bran the Broken,” which is a terrible nickname, as king. Bran smirks, in that way that suggests he’s thriving on this messy Bravo-like drama, and nonchalantly replies, “Why do you think I came all this way?” (the nerve he has!). However, just before the meeting ended, Sansa Stark crowns herself queen of an independent North.
The final episode ever of Game of Thrones ends with Tyrion crowned as hand of the king, with Bronn, Brienne, Ser Davos and Sam on the council. Sansa’s ordination as Queen in the North, Jon’s emotional farewell to Arya, Sansa, and Bran. While Arya heads to west of westoros.
Jon Snow, the true heir to the Iron Throne, who lost the woman he loved, lost his title and freedom to build a family, the Game of Thrones incredible series came to a colossal ending as Jon has been forced to live out the rest of his days in exile with Ghost, Turmund and the wildlings.
