Few months after his record label dragged him to court, Nigerian Singer, Runtown is being accused of fraud by a US-based white lady named Shawn Rene.
In a viral video, the woman accused Runtown and his brother of allegedly taking $124, 000 for a show and never showed up, instead, they have stopped taking her calls and have disappeared into thin air.
But in a statement made available to NET, the singer denied the accusations, as he described it as a tool of blackmail to bring himself and his management down.
Speaking on the allegation, Runtown’s management, ‘SoundGod Music Group’ in an official statement claimed neither he nor his brother ever met or dealt with the woman, online and offline. Rather, the woman was duped by a group of internet fraudsters who were impostors.
The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to reports circulating on social media by a US-based woman named, Shawn Rene, accusing our artist, Runtown of fraud.
‘Its all lies and and an attempt to blackmail and tarnish our image. We have contacted the Nigerian security agencies including the DSS and EFCC who are all on the matter at the moment and preliminary investigations already reveals that its a group of impostors who may have duped ‘Sawhn Rene’ using Runtown’s name.”
This is the third time in two years that the pop star would be involved in controversial issues involving various people. Early this year, the ‘Mad Over You’ singer whose real name Douglas Jack-Agu, was slammed with a court injunction over breach of contract by his record label, Eric Many Entertainment, owned by billionaire businessman Okwudili Umenyiora.
In 2016, the singer had cried foul over an injunction that stopped him from performing, recording or using his brand name for any commercial activity pending the time the differences which both parties resorted to settling out of court.
