World football giants Brazil were held to a massive draw as they failed to stamp their dominance over Switzerland in their opening group E fixture at the Rostov Arena.
The Samba boys were favourites to win the fixture and the 5time world champions looked dominating from the beginning but the Switz team also showed that they had the capacity to withstand an onslaught from the Brazilians.
The Brazilians finally broke the deadlock in the 20th minute after Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho fired home a screamer from outside the 18-yard box.
World’s most expensive footballer, Neymar Jnr. failed to find his spark in the game as he was consitently bothered by Switz defender Valon Behrami. The PSG forward is just returning from a long-term injury but that didn’t matter to Behrami who made sure the Brazilan didnt function in the game.
The second half began with the Switz team determined to get a result from the game and their efforts pained off in the 50th minute as Zuber scored from a corner kick to level up the scores at 1 -1.
Neymar continued to be bundled in the pitch as the Switz team resorted to consolidate on the one point they had in their hands and defended for the rest of the game.
The other Group E game saw Serbia take on Costa Rica with The Serb skipper and former Manchester City player Aleksander Kolarov scoring a spectacular freekick to give the Europeans a lone goal win over the South Americans.
Serbia now tops the group with 3 points followed by Brazil, Switzerland with one point each and Costa Rica yet to register a point.
