For some people, multiple piercings are a major fashion statement that they love to explore but the question is, do they care for them in the right way? Before getting a new piercing to serve as an added edge to your looks, there are certain things to note.
See 5 tips below:
1. Use a needle and not a ‘gun’:
Piercing guns force the earrings through with pressure and can cause a lot of damage to the skin tissue. Needles as a better option are more sterile and hurts less.
2. Wash a fresh piercing with soap and water:
Most people believe that using alcohol is best for washing a fresh piercing, but it only dries the piercing out, causing it to crack and bleed, thereby making the wound to remain open. Oil based soap is best for this case because the oil softens up the healing tissue.
3. Piercings in certain areas heal faster than others:
When certain areas of the body are pierced, it takes a longer time to heal than others, the greater the blood flow to a certain area of the body, the faster it will heal.
Earlobes, tongues and lips have the fastest healing period of about four to six weeks as compared to the cartilage on the outer ear or nose.
4. Be healthy:
When getting a piercing, you need to stay healthy, keep your body hydrated, and maintain a healthy diet. Also, to prevent irritations, it’s best to wash your hands with soap and water before you touch your new piercings and avoid bumping or sleeping on it.
5. If you see these signs, your piercings are irritated but not infected:
If you notice excessive swelling, redness, radiant heat, or if the piercing is secreting fluid, your piercing is likely irritated and not infected as it happens 9 out of 10 times. It’s best to go back to your piercer to take a look at it, there is no need to panic.
