Dettol recently took an initiative to save lives in Nigeria by launching the ‘Clean Naija Initiative’ at the Radisson Blu, Ikeja on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. The aim of the initiative is to promote proper hygiene practices that will help people make positive changes for their health. This move was necessary because of the prevalence of diarrhea which is becoming a major disaster in the country.
Reports by UNICEF indicates that diarrhea caused by poor hygiene is responsible for the death of about 150,000 children under five years of age in Nigeria annually. As shocking as this sounds, the most unfortunate part of the matter is that these deaths can be avoided by simply imbibing a culture of proper hygiene.
Creating the mindset of cleanliness among Nigerians is what Dettol has set out to do through the Clean Naija initiative. And to help amplify their voice to reach as many people as possible, Dettol partnered with popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele to become its Brand Ambassador.
By putting a face that people can recognize as a champion of the initiative, Dettol is confident that they will make more impact in preventing diarrhea among children, and even convince Nigerians to refrain from the unhealthy habit of engaging in practices that endanger their health.
If every member of the public receives the message and put it into practice, more families will remain healthy and more lives will be saved in the long run.
