How Nigerians Are Reacting To Oby Ezekwesili’s Withdrawal From Presidential Election

By Prince Etim

Nigerians woke up to the news of one of the contenders for next month’s presidential election, Oby Ezekwesili withdrawing from the race. In the statement she released on Twitter and her website, she explained her decision to quit the process as proof of her determination to right the wrongs in the country by supporting a coalition that can defeat the incumbent. “My commitment in this regard has been consistent and in consonance with my agreement, at the request of candidates under Presidential Aspirants Coming Together (PACT) in 2018, to supervise their internal selection process as an outside observer passionate about building this alternative force. Despite disagreements within the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria on these and other issues, I have decided that it is now necessary to show by action and example my determination on this issue by stepping down my candidacy and focusing on building the coalition once and for all,” the statement read in part.

Her withdrawal, only a few weeks before the election has generated multiple reactions from observers and regular Nigerians alike. Here are a few as seen on Twitter.

We want more people who’ll put the country first before self like Madam Oby Ezekwesili.

@obyezeks Oby Ezekwesili I am happy to hear that you have stepped down to form a coalition to fight @OfficialPDPNig and @APCNigeria now this is strategy, u deserve some accolades

Oby Ezekwesili has stepped down to help build a single coalition against the incumbents. My next preferred candidate is Kingsley Moghalu, and if all other 3rd force presidential candidates consolidate around one person, it can become significant enough to shake the status quo.

The plan was for Buhari to miss the debate, so Oby Ezekwesili and co can make the debate about Atiku, do him dirty, discredit him, thus creating content for days for those BMC idiots.

Again, Atiku did well by missing that debate.

Oby Ezekwesili, the Presidential Candidate of ACPN, has chickened out.

After watching The mammoth crowd that continues to receive Mr. Integrity across the nation, she has pulled out of the Presidential Race, letting her followers down.@MBuhari will never let us down.

I have always believed that leadership is about service & sacrifice & today, I would like to commend Dr. (Mrs) Oby Ezekwesili @obyezeks for leading the charge to forming a viable coalition to presenting a Consensus Candidate for the 2019 Presidential elections.

Declare for President.

Collect donations into millions.

Refuse to campaign.

Quit race.

Become richer.

Madam Oby Ezekwesili is a yahoo boy.

I’ve always said it, the easiest way to defeat this #APCPDP dominance, is only if Oby Ezekwesili , Fela Durotoye, Kingsley Moghalu and Omoyele Sowore all join forces, instead of sharing their votes amongst one another. After all, they are all in it for the progress of the nation.

Madam oby ezekwesili has stepped down from the presidential race to support a coalition that will send out the #APCPDP monopoly.

While this decision is great, it is however coming late & will make no difference if all of Sowore, Moghalu & Fela Durotoye still decide to run.

Madam Oby Ezekwesili trending, If you don’t know why, here is the highlight 👇👇👇👇

Commentator: I think she thought that was the finish line 😂😂😂

The truth is that Oby Ezekwesili has no electoral value, she can’t even win her local government. Infact, Kingsley Moghalu, Oby, Sowore and Fela can only defeat PDP & APC in a debate not on ballot

Madam Oby thank you for making me lose 250k from @Stalyf and another 50k from @YemieFASH
But on the other hand, I have a newfound respect for both men. They warned me and predicted Oby Ezekwesili stepping down. They saw this coming
