In July 2018, Afrobeat maestro, Femi Kuti raised an alarm via social media that a member of his Positive Force band who had joined him to the US for a performance at the XPN Music Festival was no where to be found minutes before their performance.
The said member who Femi Kuti reported to go by the name of Aghedo Andrew was the band’s bassist. According to Made, the first son of Femi Kuti, the disappearance of Aghedo landed him the opportunity to join his father’s band.
Made Kuti made this revelation in a new editorial interview conducted by Sheifunmi Nioma for Pop N’ Gloss. The singer explained that he had just wrapped up his programme from London’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire Of Music and Dance, the same school his late grandfather, Fela Kuti attended.
“When it happened, I knew there was an opportunity for me… now the bass is not my main instrument, but I knew that I could find my way in. Learn it, practice hard and be able to do it. But I was diverting a bit from what I initially expected I would do. But the experience, the learning… You can’t play with a musician like Femi Kuti and not absorb everything.”, He explained.
In the interview, Made also spoke about growing up in a historical legacy, connecting with music outside of his father and grandfather’s legacy and outside the New Afrika Shrine.
