In what seems like a scene from an action thriller, rapper 21 Savage has been arrested by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement
According to the highly feared agency, the 26-year-old rapper whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph is actually a British citizen who failed to depart the US after his visa expired in 2006. He is currently in detention and faces deportation to the country he left as a teenager.
21 Savage has always represented Atlanta in his music. Even his name moniker is a reference to a street gang he was affiliated with before making it big with music. Incidentally, he is nominated for two awards at the Grammy Awards set to hold this month.
Although he was once convicted of drug-related offences in 2014, his lawyers say he is an upstanding member of the community. “Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in this country, especially in Atlanta, Georgia, and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy,” a statement reads.
