Spain recorded their first win in the 2018 World Cup following a slim win over their Iranian Opponents in an intriguing fixture on Wednesday evening.
The first half of the game had ended goalless as both teams looked for their breakthrough in the game. The kickoff of the second half, however, saw the Spanish side pick of momentum in their chase for a goal, creating a couple of chances.
The break finally came in the 54th minute after Iniesta played the ball to the Spanish striker to score his 3rd goal of the tournament.
The Iranians, however, thought they had equalised in the 64th minute but had their goal overruled by after the VAR team adjudged the goal to be offside, spoiling the party for the thousands of Iranian fans in the Kazan Arena.
The Iranians tried all they could to get the much-needed equaliser which remained elusive until the closing of the match.
Portugal now leads the group with 4 points followed by Spain also with 4 points but with a lower goal difference. Iran has 3 points from their first game against Morocco and the Africans who have been knocked out following their loss to Portugal are last with 0 points.
