Nigeria put up arguably one of the best performances in recent times to thrash rivals, Cameroon, 4-0 in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Friday evening.
Fans in Uyo were given a treat as two goals in each half saw the Super Eagles take a giant step towards reaching Russia 2018.
The floodgate opened in the 28th minute when Odion Ighalo ran onto captain, John Mikel Obi‘s first time pass to score.
Mikel himself then made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute, shooting into the roof of the Cameroon goal after Ighalo deftly allowed Victor Moses‘ corner-kick to reach him.
Nigeria’s dominance continued in the second half, with Moses ending a blistering counterattack with a goal in the 54th minute.
And the result was complete when substitute, Kelechi Iheanacho, headed home Ogenyi Onazi‘s cross from close range in the 76th minute.
The result becomes Cameroon’s heaviest defeat in 49 years and leaves their World Cup dreams on the brink of ending.
Meanwhile, Nigeria now have nine points from three games and hold a seven-point lead in Group D of the Third Qualifying Round.
Zambia or Algeria could cut that lead to five points, though, when both sides meet on Saturday afternoon in Lusaka.
