The Kodak, invented by George Eastman (1854-1932)

Multinational imaging and photographic equipment, materials and services company, Eastman Kodak Company commonly known as Kodak has filed for bankruptcy. Reports say the New York-based company failed to ‘remake itself for the digital age’.

Kodak which was founded 131 years ago says it has filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the US bankruptcy code, along with its US subsidiaries. However, its units in other places have not been affected.

Antonio Perez, chairman and chief executive of Kodak says the company had shed 47,000 jobs and closed 13 manufacturing plants and 130 processing labs since 2003.

The decision to declare bankruptcy, Kodak says was its board’s unanimous decision. It has also been agreed that the company’s portfolio of digital imaging patents will be sold to ‘ease off the company’s financial pressures’.

The shocking move will however protect the company from its creditors while it reorganises its financial structure. Kodak intends to bounce back in 2013.

Kodak is taking a significant step toward enabling our enterprise to complete its transformation‘, Mr Perez said.

Kodak was founded by George Eastman in 1892.

Hi Guys! What popping? How was your Christmas and New Year? Mine was……….interesting! That’s the word! I didn’t go out too much but I met a very powerful person. Let me tell you how…………..I was ‘jonzing’ at work a few days to Christmas when I got a call from one of my good friends. She invited me to a private party in Ikoyi. Her ‘man-friend’ was entertaining a few of his friends and she wanted me to join them. I was a bit skeptical so I asked who would be there….she said some very important people. That was enough for me! The last time I accompanied her to his house,

I met the owner of that big mall in Lekki! I was wearing just a random pair of jeans and a t-shirt….there was no time to drive all the way home. Luckily I remembered that I had a nice dress in my car and a pair of expensive designer heels that I just bought! My make-up was in the car as well! I was set! I quickly changed into the short backless dress and slipped on the heels, put on some make-up and drove to the huge house in Ikoyi.

There were so many Mobile Police guys outside the house so I knew these were ‘real’ big boys. I met up with my friend and some other girls and we walked in together.

We walked in to a dimly lit sitting room….R and B music playing in the background and about six guys seated. There were four of us ladies and six guys! Nice! I spotted the third most powerful man in Nigeria sitting on a couch….he quickly became my target! I was sure all the other guys were loaded but I didn’t have time to start interviewing them all abeg!

One of the other girls obviously had the same game-plan because she quickly made her way to the couch and sat next to him. All the other girls made small talk with the other guys…..I was not to be outdone! I sat next to her on the couch as well!

I didn’t say anything at first; I just sipped Rose and listened to everyone else’s conversations. She wasn’t doing so well with him and I could see he wasn’t impressed with her. I smiled and said to him ‘It’s nice to see you dressed down….I’m used to seeing you in traditional gear on TV…’He smiled at me and we started talking….we hit it off immediately and we just kept talking over the girls head….totally ignoring her.

She was so annoyed! At some point, she got up and I moved closer to him. He’s actually a nice guy with such a nice smile. We talked for over an hour and it was like we forgot there were people around us.

We exchanged phone numbers. On Christmas day I sent him an SMS and he didn’t reply. I made sure I didn’t call him till New Year’s Eve. He sounded so happy to hear from me and we talked for a bit on the phone. We made a date to meet up at one of his houses in V.I. The street was so coded; I didn’t even know it existed.

It felt really weird when the armed guys asked me who I was there to see and I mentioned his first name. After a few minutes, they let me drive in and I was walked to the front door.

I noticed all the G-Wagons in the compound. ‘Money Good’ I thought to myself. He came downstairs and offered me drinks. I asked for Henny and coke; and we gisted and drank.

On one hand, he was so cool and easy to talk to….at the same time I was blown away by the fact that I was sitting side by side with this powerful man! I was shaking inside o! As innnnn…..this is a BIG FISH!

One thing led to another and before you could say ‘lawmaker!’ My top was off …his lips on my right boob and his fingers in me…….I was about to ask if he had protection (in my excitement…I forgot to bring some) when his phone started to ring ….he took the call and he started to frown…it was his wife……reminding him that some visitors were on the way to see him.

He gave me time to clean up and get myself together…..he promised we’ll hook up again soon……..*deep inside* I’m over here cursing those visitors!!! Who knows what he would have given me ehn?? KMT!!! I’m angry ‘jare’…..

The 17th ThisDay Annual Awards is here again and the 2012 edition according to organizers will be ‘celebrating Nigerian women of distinction and lifetime achievers’

In a world dominated by men, they have broken barriers, touched lives and made a difference‘, ThisDay says as it has fielded 45 women in the ‘Women of Distinction’ category, ranging from politics to entertainment.

The ‘Lifetime Achievers’ however sees less honourees as only 25 candidates have been chosen. Legal practitioner Priscilla Kuye is the only woman who makes the list. ‘In a lifetime of service to the nation and mankind, they made their marks‘.

Amongst the very popular faces who have made this year’s honouree list is veteran singer Onyeka Onwenu who ThisDay says is being honoured for her ‘contribution to journalism and the arts’. Others include Toyosi Akerele of RISE, lawmaker Abike Dabiri, Sefi Atta and billionaire businesswoman Bola Shagaya.

Check out the full list below…
