Chocolate City CEO and Nigerian rap legend MI Abaga is currently the talk of the internet as a result of his recent uncharacteristic hostile response to an article written about him by a media outlet. Reacting to the critique by Pulse’s Ayomide Tayo, M went on a Twitter rant that culminated in a three hour podcast session at the Pulse office a day later.

But the actual song that commenced the MI versus media conversation is a song by upcoming rapper Kead, A Letter to M.I. A self-acclaimed MI fan, Kead delivered some of the most biting critique of the man, forming the basis of Tayo’s oped.

Then you dropped The Chairman, that’s the one I started to doubt it
Cos you had deep flows but it kinda felt like you drowned it…

Kinda feels like you were writing one bar for seven days
Then you spit a weak line when you enter the booth

See Illegal Music 3 man that could have been another
But let’s face the fact, you’re too big to be doing covers.

Sometimes I sit and wonder, what did you ever do with the niggas you signed?
Milli, Koker and Dice, things were looking out nice – until they split up

Y’all split up and you left the game for 3 years
Expecting nobody will sit on y’all chair
But well streets ti takeover, ogbeni streets ti takeover
English rappers don dey hide, omo this one na game over

Who would have thought that I would take it as far as Chocolate City Unsigned?
But I’m still unsigned
Matter of fact, everybody on that list unsigned

Kead is one of the rising crop of Nigerian acts who are bypassing the traditional distribution route to create a following on Soundcloud. His barb at M did not go unreplied as he tweeted his feeling at him.

@KING_KEAD although I wish you well in your career.. I am not pleased, touched or honored by this song… That’s all I will say
